The kind of questions the car test asks, written the way it asks them. Pick an answer and the reason appears — read it even when you were right, because that is what makes the next one easy.

What is the default speed limit on a motorway in Ireland?

Motorways carry the highest default limit in the State at 120 km/h. A lower limit applies wherever it is signposted, such as through roadworks.

Rules of the Road, ch. 2

What is the default speed limit on a rural local road (an L road)?

The default on rural local roads was reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h in February 2025. These are the narrow, often unlined roads signed with an L number.

Rules of the Road, ch. 2

What is the default speed limit on a regional road (an R road)?

Regional roads default to 80 km/h. They sit between national roads and local roads in the network, and are signed with an R number.

Rules of the Road, ch. 2

What is the default speed limit in a built-up area?

The built-up-area default is 50 km/h. Many councils are lowering this to 30 km/h in housing estates, town centres and outside schools by bye-law, so watch for the signs.

Rules of the Road, ch. 2

What is the default speed limit on a national road that is not a motorway?

National primary and national secondary roads default to 100 km/h. They are signed with an N number on a green background.

Rules of the Road, ch. 2

In the app

Everything the test asks about, in one app

The website answers a question. The app gets you through the whole bank, keeps track of what you keep getting wrong, and tells you when you are ready to book.

1

Learn it once, properly

Twelve guides that explain the system behind the rules, so a sign or a limit you have never seen still makes sense.

Shape and colour as a system, not four hundred pictures to memorise

The rules people actually get wrong: alcohol limits, penalty points, motorway lanes

Free in every category, and it works with no signal

2

Practise the way you want to

Sessions you set up yourself: a topic, the ones you have never tried, or the ones you keep getting wrong.

Five questions or forty, timed or not, marked as you go or at the end

An explanation after every answer, with the Rules of the Road behind it

Say your answer out loud when your hands are busy

3

Sit mocks that match the real thing

The real question count, the real clock and the real pass mark, with nothing marked until you finish.

Six papers per category, the first one free

Afterwards: your score, and every wrong answer with the reason

A bar per sitting against the pass line, so you see a trend rather than a number

4

Know the signs, and know when you are ready

The full sign library, three ways to drill it, and a readiness score that says whether to book.

Every sign turns over for its meaning; quiz and flashcards on top

Three signals: enough of the bank seen, last three mocks passed, no topic left weak

A countdown to your test date with how many questions a day that leaves

A look around

Real screens off a phone, not mock-ups — an account partway through the car bank, so the questions seen, the mistakes still to redo and the mock scores are the app's own numbers.
